Posted Mar 24, 2013 (Patch 5.2.0)Although it has been available since World of Warcraft's launch, it wasn't until patch 5.0.4 that this item granted an increase to mining. It also wasn't until that same patch that miners were allowed to mine nodes without needing a mining pick in their bags.
Lastly, the old version did have a weapon damage range and weapon speed / type (Miscellaneous). It was much agreed upon, however, that wielding it was in general a Bad Idea.The effect does not stack with:
Edit: Struck out that part until I can check the item in-game. WowDB's tooltip doesn't match up with what Wowhead, Wowpedia, and Blizzard's own website say.
